$158,455 in sales from $6,460 in ads.
How we rebuilt Google Ads for a U.S. Perfume Brand to focus on purchases instead of clicks, turning every ad dollar into $24.50 in online sales.
Traffic was coming in. Sales were not keeping up.
Online fragrance is a tough category. Shoppers cannot smell a perfume through a screen, big brands own the search results, and it is easy to pay for clicks from people who browse and leave. The brand needed its ad budget to bring in real orders, and to know exactly how much money each dollar was making back.
Paying for browsers
Cheap clicks looked good on paper, but most visitors were not buying.
Expensive sales
Each purchase from the old setup cost $16.12 in ads.
A tight budget
With a modest daily spend, every ad dollar had to earn back far more than it cost.
Let Google chase purchases, not clicks.
We rebuilt the account around one goal: completed orders on the website.
Purchase tracking with order values
Every completed checkout is sent back to Google with its order value, so the account can see exactly which searches turn into revenue.
A new sales campaign built for conversions
We replaced the old Search campaign with a new one set to get the most purchases for the budget, instead of the most clicks.
Ads that match buying intent
Ads and keywords focused on shoppers looking for the brand’s scents and ready to buy, which pushed the click through rate to 29.60%.
Testing new scent searches
A separate non-brand campaign for individual scent names was set up to reach new shoppers searching for specific fragrances.
Every $1 in ads brought back $24.50 in sales.
From March 1 to October 9, 2026, $6,460.54 in Google Ads spend brought in 807 online purchases worth $158,455.46. That is a 24.5x return on ad spend, with an average order of about $196.
| Campaign | Purchases | Cost per purchase | Purchase revenue | Ad spend | ROAS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New sales campaign Best performer | 759.67 | $7.50 | $151,178.79 | $5,697.52 | 26.5x |
| Old sales campaign (paused) | 47.33 | $16.12 | $7,276.67 | $763.01 | 9.5x |
| Total | 807 | $8.01 | $158,455.46 | $6,460.54 | 24.5x |
The new sales campaign returned $26.53 for every dollar spent, almost three times the old campaign, and cut the cost of each purchase from $16.12 to $7.50. Same product, same market. The difference was telling Google what a good result looks like.
| Traffic | New sales campaign | Old sales campaign | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Impressions | 31,375 | 37,203 | 68,578 |
| Clicks | 9,288 | 3,099 | 12,387 |
| Click through rate | 29.60% | 8.33% | 18.06% |
| Click to purchase rate | 8.18% | 1.53% | 6.51% |
Revenue figures are Google Ads reported purchase values (USD). Google reports some purchases in fractions when it shares credit between clicks.
What this means for your online store.
Sending order values to Google is what makes a real return on ad spend possible to measure and improve.
Switching from a clicks focus to a purchases focus cut the cost per sale by more than half.
Less than $30 a day drove more than $150,000 in purchases over seven months.
Testing non-brand scent searches opens the door to shoppers who have not found the brand yet.
